A cover letter is used to further express an applicant's ability to perform a specific job function.Although resumes serve to build an overall impression of the candidate, the job requirements are what make a job interview successful or unsuccessful. Many job seekers do not understand this basic fact. The result is that they end up wasting their effort by submitting a resume that does not meet the needs of the company, or the role, that the candidate has applied for. Therefore, it is important for a job seeker to understand the difference between a resume and a cover letter in order to have a higher chance of success.Before beginning a job sear ch, be sure to have a clear understanding of how resumes differ from cover letters. While some individuals understand this basic distinction, others just want to know that they are doing a good job and that they have been hired based on their skills and abilities. This is actually the opposite of what should happen. When candidates submit a resume, it is important for them to take care to craft a cover letter that matches the job function.Most applicants believe that they should take the time to create a cover letter that will perfectly match the job requirements of the company that they are applying to. Yet, the employer should not expect a resume to do all of the work. Instead, the job seeker must write a resume that reflects their personality and abilities, and list a list of qualifications that match the company. Not only does this convey professionalism, but it also lets the employer know how far down the line they can start looking. In other words, if a candidate wants to appl y for the position of banquet server, they should list the qualities of a banquet server, then list those that are needed.How does a resume do this? The resume is simply the summary of the candidate's professional background. In other words, they are simply focusing on the skills that they already possess. Some people see this as being irresponsible. This is not true at all because the resume, which is submitted, has to match the information that is listed in the job description.The job of a resume is to get the employer to stop and look. The resume is not a sales pitch. It is not designed to sell a candidate to the employer.Therefore, while a resume can be formatted to include a section with a sales pitch and one that present the candidate's skills, it is very important for the job seeker to avoid going into the HR department with a resume that cannot match the needs of the company. Once the potential employee knows this, they will feel more comfortable with the company they are interviewing with and will most likely choose to apply for a position with the company that they feel matches their personal skills.
